John Owen Walters, 84, of St. George, husband of Delaine Walters, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 15, 2023.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday at the St. George Cemetery with Pastor Dawjr Wood officiating. Pallbearers will be John-Conner Walters, Miles Walters Pete Barcomb, Anthony Infinger, Clint Smoak and Aaron Maier.
John was born on August 4, 1938, in St. George, a son of the late Troley McCrae Walters and Emma Westbury Walters. He was a graduate of St. George High School, member of the South Carolina National Guard and worked at the Charleston Naval Shipyard in the carpentry department. He then owned and operated the Piggly Wiggly in St. George where he started the Worlds Grits Festival. He was a member of the Harmony Lodge #61 for 50 years, Omar Shriners Safety Patrol and an avid golfer. He was predeceased by a sister, Edith Axson.
Surviving is his loving wife of 59 years, Delaine I. Walters, St. George; two sons, Chris (Kim) Walters and Jamie Walters, all of Edisto Island; grandchildren, Savannah, John-Conner and Miles Walters.
