J.L. was born on December 5, 1936 in Reevesville, the son of John Lewis Heaton, Sr. and Carrie Bell Lucas Heaton.  J.L. was a life-long farmer and enjoyed working with his hands.  He provided delicious peanuts and sweet potatoes for his family and friends for years.  In addition, if a tool that was needed could not be found, he invented it!  He loved a project and could always be found in his shed, where he trained his children and grandchildren to follow in his footsteps.  Many friends and family gathered frequently and shared many cherished moments in his shed. If he wasn’t found in the shed, he could always be found in one of his many swings.  J.L. was a life-long active member of Reevesville Baptist Church and was always willing to serve.  He is pre-deceased by a daughter, Joanna Heaton; parents, John Lewis Heaton, Sr. and Carrie Bell Lucas Heaton; siblings, Patricia H. Walters, Carolyn H. Hilton, Gerald C. Heaton, Douglas F. Heaton; and his first wife, Elizabeth W. Heaton.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia W. Heaton; daughters Lisa H. (John) Patrick and Jennifer H. (Sam) Forest; and son Clement B. (Belinda) Gruber, Jr.; grandchildren Dr. Elizabeth P. (Sam) DuRant, Jonathan (Allison) Patrick, Dr. Stephen L. Patrick, Thomas B. Forest, Tillie E. Forest, C. Bradley Gruber, III, Lesley (Andy) Moore, Katelyn (Harley) Huskins; great-grandchildren Anne Heaton DuRant, Amelia G. DuRant, Jacob M. Patrick, Connor H. Moore, Dawson G. Moore, Chloe A. Huskins, and Willa M. Huskins.

Memorials may be made to Reevesville Baptist Church, Post Office Box 86, Reevesville, SC 29471 or Magnolia Cemetery, 100 Main Street, Reevesville, SC 29471.
