Jim Edward Flannery, aka Shorty, 55 of Charleston entered into eternal rest on April 3, 2022.
A memorial service will be held Thursday April 7, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. in the Bryant Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Norman Jarrett officiating.
Born January 8, 1967, in Charleston, he was the son of the late George Anthony Flannery, Jr., Alice Jeannette Childers Smoak and beloved step-father James “Podge” Smoak. He was a graduate of Harleyville-Ridgeville High School and a Supervisor for Rogers and Son Construction Company in Charleston, laying large pipe and supervising storm drain installation.
Shorty lived his life one birthday at a time. He thought last of himself and cared more for the joy of another than whatever may stand in the way of his own. A father of three and stepfather of two, he was a devoted and loving presence for all of his children. Committed, determined and trusted, he aimed to draw out the sweeter side in us all. He valued fellowship and caring for thy stranger. Notwithstanding the label that stuck, short dawg stood tall in the face of uncommon adversity. He smiled, with that infectious grin, at the most unthinkably difficult prognosis. An enthusiast and an optimist, his well-tempered manner knew no equal. He is survived by his three daughters; Heather Nicole Baynard, Florence, Breanna Nicole Flannery (Tim Amey), Charleston and Emily Danielle (Tucker) Thorne, Hinesville, GA; two step-sons, David Barwick, St. George, Brandon Williams, Beaufort; four brothers, Ernest (Shirley) Moore, Dorchester, Stevie (Susie) Moore, St. George, Larry Moore, Holly Hill, Robbie (Brenda) Flannery; three sisters, Mary (Luke) Garwood, Holly Hill, Darlene (Ray) Bradford, Moncks Corner, Pamela Judy, St. George, Grandchildren, Skyler and Chloe Parker, Hayden and Brantley Matthews, step-grands, Layla Minus and Nolan Barwick; and his special grand pups; Rhodie, Lily, Josie and kitty, Ozzy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. George Church of God, 326 Quaker Road, St. George, SC 29477.
