Janie Bell Mellard

Janie Bell Mellard, 96, widow of Grady Lee Mellard, of St. George, entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 6, 2021 at her daughter’s residence.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, September 9, 2021, at Old St. George Baptist Church with the Rev. James Way and Rev. Robert Reeves officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Richard Infinger, Jr., Wesley Infinger, Tyler Infinger, Michael Atkins, Jr., Jeremy Brownlee, Brian Fralix, Jason Clark and Kenneth Mellard, Jr.  Visitation will be an hour before the service.  Friends may call at the home of Rickey and Barbara Infinger, 358 Infinger Rd., St. George.  Covid precautions are encouraged, and service will be broadcast in the church parking lot.

Janie Bell was born on August 25, 1925, in Harleyville, a daughter of the late Johnny Pinckney and Emma Essie Martin Jackson.  She attended Harleyville Public Schools and was a member of Old St. George Baptist Church and the Doris Henderson Sunday School class.  She was predeceased by a son, Herman Wayne Mellard; siblings, Allen Jackson, Legare Jackson, Wilbur Jackson, Gloria Horne, Johnny “JP” Jackson and Dorothy Murrell. 

Surviving is her son, Kenneth Lee (JoAnn) Mellard, St. George; daughters, Carol Virginia (Michael) Atkins, Lenoir, NC, Barbara Louise (Rickey) Infinger, Frances Marie Fralix (Gene Brownlee), both of St. George and Ruby Dorita (Hozea) Clark, Dorchester; sister, Millie Singletary, St. George; grandchildren, Nancy (Ronald) Quattlebaum, Richard Infinger (Christi Wagers), Cathy Jo Mellard, Denise (Bart) Roberts, Jeremy Brownlee, Kenneth Mellard, Jr., Tennille (Bobby) Cooper, Wesley (Erica) Infinger, Jason Clark, Brian Fralix, and Michael (Renee) Atkins, Jr.; 20 great-grandchildren, Connor (Jake) McLane, Nickolaus Quattlebaum (Sonni Brown), Coty Mellard, Dustin Flood, Johnathan Atkins, Dane Atkins, Tyler Infinger(Serena Hilton), Caroline Roberts (Will Turner), Will Roberts, Catie Cooper, Celeste Roberts, Marissa Cooper, Breanna Cooper, Jonathan Infinger, Dargan Cooper, James Infinger, Jason Infinger, Cameron Brownlee, Katie Clark and Bailey Clark.
