Gwendolyn Utsey Obituary

Gwendolyn Roper Utsey, 65, of St. George, entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 9, 2022 at her residence.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday at the St. George Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor Howard Proveaux officiating. Burial will follow in the Utsey Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tyler Grimes, Thomas Roper, Timothy Stroble, Ben Williams, Billy Murray and Will Grimes. Visitation will be an hour before the service.

Gwendolyn was born on September 5, 1956 in Woodruff, a daughter of the late John Canady Roper and Della Desirae McMahan Roper. She was a loomer and equipment operator with the cotton mill. She was predeceased by a daughter, Lacrecia Murray and a son, Timothy Fowler.

Surviving are two daughters, Delta M. Stroble, St. George and Michelle M. (Jason) Arnold, Spartanburg; grandchildren, Andrew Fowler, Zack Fowler, Justin Carnell, Kaitlyn (Ben) Williams, Cheyenne Cannady (Tyler Grimes) Stroble, Jesse Arnold, Timothy Stroble, Jasmine Arnold and Samantha Earnhart; great-grandson, Rowan Williams; brother, James “Pete” Roper and John Wayne Roper; three sisters, Linda (Arden) Riddle, Mary (Frank) Donnel and Shirley Patterson.
