Emma Sue Dukes Thompson, 97, of Branchville, widow of Everette N. Thompson, entered into eternal rest on July 16, 2023.
Mrs. Thompson was born on December 2, 1925, in St. George, a daughter of the late George W. and Mattie Martin Dukes. She was an active church member who left a spiritual legacy of teaching others in Sunday School for over 77 years. She served as President of the Women’s Missionary Society of Prospect Southern Methodist Church for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family, church and community. Mrs. Thompson lived her life with kindness, strength and love for the Lord. She was predeceased by her siblings, Elise D. Elrod, Inez D. Fralix, Carlisle Dukes and Marion Dukes.
Surviving are her daughters, Carol (James) Lewis, Reevesville, and Dale Robinson (Ed Lockhart), Irmo; grandchildren, Stephanie (Cory) Tanner, Jamie (Richard) Blodgett, Andrew (Mariek) Robinson and Danny Lockhart; three great-granddaughters, Emma Lee Tanner, Anna Elizabeth Blodgett and Willow Elaine Lockhart.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 19 at 11 am at Prospect Southern Methodist Church, 344 Flatwoods Road, Bowman, SC, 29018 with the Rev. Jim Bogstad officiating. Visitation will be an hour before the service in the church. Burial will follow in the Thompson Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill Dukes, Donnie Baker, Ronnie Elrod, Marty Connelly, Joel Kirven and Harold Felder, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are E.T. Spires, Russell Felder and Bob Whitlock.
