Clevie Chinners Obituary

Clevie Dean Chinners, 81, of 102 Carolina Ave., St. George, husband of Betty N. Chinners entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at his residence.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Mims and Rev. Jakie Walters officiating.  Pallbearers will be Nick Chinners, Brice Shuler, Matt Pope, Matt Padgett, Chase Odum and Perry Chinners.  The family will have a short visitation immediately after the service. 

Clevie was born on January 13, 1939, in Dorchester County, a son of the late Harry Cleveland and Annie Lee Crook Chinners.  He attended St. George High School and served in the St. George Unit of SC Army National Guard.  He was a Maintenance Supervisor for Dorchester County for 20 years.  He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years.  He was a member of Mt. Zion Brotherhood, a choir member, a past Sunday School teacher, and Sunday School Superintendent.  He was predeceased by siblings, Iris Ann Chinners, Benny Chinners and niece, Angela Ammons.

Surviving is his wife, Betty Nettles Chinners; a son, Jimmy (Debra) Chinners; a daughter, Kathy (Craig) Shuler; grandchildren, Sara Ann (Matt) Pope, Lana (Matt) Padgett, Nick (Jana) Chinners, Brianna (Chase) Odum, Brice (Tori Berry) Shuler; great-grandchildren, Brinley Pope, Rawlins Pope, Sawyer Padgett, Briar Kate Odum and Jett Chinners; brother, Bobby Joe (Maxine) Chinners; nephews, Perry (Angie) Chinners and great-niece, Isabella Ammons and great-nephew, Josh Chinners.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 114 Baptist Drive, St. George, SC 29477.
