Chief Petty Officer William Henry (Bill) Herman, USN Retired, 94, of Harleyville, widower of Fairlee (Faire) Hutto Herman, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023 of natural causes at Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center, Charleston SC.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 Monday at First United Methodist Church of Harleyville, 135 East Main Street, Harleyville, with Rev. Mickaylla McDonald and Rev. Willis Herman officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Harleyville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Aron Herman, Chris Reeves, James Burbage, Trevor Davis, Jayden Burbage and Jorge Argueta. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 4:00-6:00 PM at Bryant Funeral Home, 607 North Parler Ave., St. George.
Bill was born in Louisburg, NC, a son of the late Freddie and Lucy Hicks Herman. He was predeceased by his nine siblings and granddaughter, Heather Victorene Herman. William Herman, a WWII and Korean Conflict veteran, served in the US Navy until his retirement in 1966. He later worked and retired from Charleston Naval Shipyard and Santee Ace Hardware. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Harleyville where he taught the Men’s Sunday School class for many years. He was an active member of the community serving in Egeria Masonic Lodge #71, Eastern Star, American Legion Post, Ruritan Club and Dorchester County Historical Society. His passions included fishing and spending time with his sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Surviving are his sons, William H. (Billy) Herman and his wife Robin of Leesburg, GA, Otey L. Herman and his wife, Paula of Santee and Samuel H. Herman and his wife Deborah of Harleyville, Grandchildren, Melanie (Sky) Burley, Angela (Jorge) Argueta, Kevin (Lawren Love) Herman, Kimberly Ann Herman, Chrystal Herman (James) Burbage, Katrina Herman (Trevor) Davis, Sabrina Herman (Chris) Reeves, and Aron (Alyssa) Herman all of Harleyville, great-grandchildren, Carson Burley, Haley Burley, Emily Argueta, Jessica Argueta, Rachael Argueta, Jayden Burbage, Cassidy Burbage, Colby Burbage, Cohen Burbage, Tucker Davis, Myla Davis, Heidi Herman, Hudson Herman, Hallie Reeves, Raelynne Reeves and Scarlett Reeves.
