Lurene Stephens Bilton, 94, of St. George, widow of James Woodrow Bilton Sr., entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 23, 2017.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday at St. George United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Theron Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Black Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery, 2594 County Line Rd., Cross, SC. Pallbearers will be Jamie, Joey, Kin, Jared, Will and Jake Bilton. Visitation will be from 1:30 PM until the time of service in St. George United Methodist Church Parler Hall.
Lurene was born on March 21, 1923 in Dorchester and reared in the Zion Community, a daughter of the late Barney McKinley and Mattie Traxler Stephens. She was a 1943 graduate of Ridgeville High School and owned and operated Tag’s Restaurant in St. George. She was a faithful member of St. George United Methodist Church where she was active in the Young Christian Workers Sunday School Class and the Annie Rel Brown Circle. She was predeceased by a son, Jerome Stephens “Steve” Bilton, a sister, Gaynell S. Rhode and a brother, Victor B. Stephens.
Surviving are her sons, James W. “Woody” Bilton, Jr., Moncks Corner, Allen McKinley “Al” (Judy) Bilton, Holly Hill, and William David (Jan) Bilton, Columbia; daughter-in-law, Barbara B. Bilton, St. George; grandchildren, Jamie (Tammy) Bilton, Joey (Johna) Bilton, Ashley (Mac) Utsey, Kin (Allison) Bilton, Marla (Craig) Bilton-Westbury, Jared S. (Susan) Bilton, Lauren and Will Bilton; great-grandchildren, Jake (Megan), Kiel, Josh, Jayden, Sarah Margaret, McKinley and Elena Bilton, Addie, Grant and Bilton Utsey, Clinton, Katey, Corinne and Claudia Westbury; a great-great grandchild, Jacob Bilton; a sister, Norma S. West; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; special caregivers, Ethel Washington, Sharon Logan, Rosetta Green and Tammy Lyn Heyward.
