Lucile Campbell Obituary

Lucile Weathers Campbell, 94, of St. George, widow of Carl John Campbell, Sr., entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 14, 2018 at her residence.

Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at the Indian Field United Methodist Church with the Reverends John Williams, Bobby Etheredge, Bob Lee and Chaplin Janice Myer officiating.  Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Chad Crook, Brad Crook, John Campbell, Josh Gruber, Matt Gruber and Clint Gruber.  Visitation will begin 1:30 PM until time of service.

Lucile was born February 2, 1924, in Rosinville, one of five children born to Ellerbe Holroy Weathers and Lucy Lee Kizer Weathers.  She graduated from Harleyville High School in 1941 where she excelled in academics and basketball.  She continued to work in the family business, Weathers Cottages, Grille, and Service Station, which her family owned and operated in Rosinville.  On September 15, 1943, she married her beloved husband, Carl John Campbell, Sr., and together they reared three fine children, Carl John Campbell, Jr.; Loretta Campbell Crook; and Susan Campbell Gruber.  Their children blessed them with an amazing legacy.  In 1966, after years of rearing her children, Mrs. Campbell began a career at the Dorchester County Delinquent Tax office and she retired in 1986.  She was a lifelong and devoted member of Indian Field United Methodist Church and was active in church and Sunday School.  She was an avid amateur photographer and stellar cook.  She still liked to look through her photo collection and received requests for her recipe for delicious homemade relish.  She was affectionately known as “Grum Grum” to everyone.  She was predeceased by sisters, Grace Barker, Francis Kizer and Bobby Stephens and a brother, Roy Weathers.

Surviving is a son, Carl J. (Sonjie) Campbell, Jr.; two daughters, Loretta (Richard) Crook and Susan (Kirkland) Gruber, all of St. George; grandchildren, Lori (Hugh) Myers, Carla Campbell, Joye Campbell, John Campbell, Chad (Rebecca) Crook, Brad (Brandie) Crook, Ashley (Todd) Kyzer, Stephanie (Joel) Kirven, Josh Gruber, Matt (Jennifer) Gruber, Clint (Audrey) Gruber; 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.  The family would like to thank her special caregivers, Gladys Williams, Gloria Green, Annie Lee Sistrunk, Delores Johnson; neighbor and caregiver, Beverly Stroble and Pruitt Hospice and Barbara Hiott and Chaplin Janice Myer.

Memorials may be made to Indian Field United Methodist Church, 2030 Highway 15 North, St. George, SC 29477 and St. George United Methodist Church, Mission Meals, PO Box 506, St. George, SC 29477.
