James Emmit “Jimmy” Murray, 73, of St. George, husband of Patricia M. Murray, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at his residence.
Funeral Services will be held 2 P.M. Thursday, May 16, 2019 at St. Matthews Baptist Church with the Reverends Duane Woosley and Tim Marcengill officiating. Burial will follow at the Utsey Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sammie Murray, Ernest Jackson, Jody Creel, Kevin Dantzler, Justin Sweatman, and Frank Cantley. Visitation will be an hour before the service at the St. Matthews Baptist Church, 2593 Wire Road, St. George, SC 29477.
Jimmy was born on August 22, 1945, a son of the late Sims Leroy Murray, Sr. and Margaret Donaldson Murray. He was a graduate of St. George High School and an Army Vietnam Veteran. He was an electrician foreman in Shop 99 with the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He was a member of St. Matthews Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a lifetime member of the BASS Association and a Tournament Bass fisherman, member of the Harmony Lodge #61 and a Gideon. He was predeceased by a grandson, Jonathan Thomas Sweatman, a brother, Sims Leroy Murray, Jr., his stepmother Alvilda B. Murray and stepbrother Parker Byrd, Sr.
Surviving is his wife, Patricia M. Murray; daughters, Theresa Lynn Murray, both of St. George and Amelia Murray (David) Rochester, of Aiken; grandchildren, Justin A. (Kim) Sweatman, of Cope and Jennifer S. (Kevin) Dantzler, of St. George, Laura A. Rochester, Sarah T. Rochester and James D. Rochester; great-grandchildren, Madison, Molly, and Bowen Sweatman and Murray Lynn, Emma and Thomas Dantzler; stepsiblings, Roger (Lois) Byrd, Sylvia B. Livingston, and Eddie (Sandra) Byrd.
