Fitzhugh Lee Sweatman, Jr., 83, husband of Martha Westbury Sweatman, 4091 Wire Road, St. George entered into eternal rest Tuesday morning at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Thursday, May 3, 2018 in Grover United Methodist Church with Reverends Melvin Bell and Fred Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Utsey Cemetery, Grover, SC.
Pallbearers will be Nick Drew, Justin Sweatman, Rob Huskey, Chad Crane, Wyatt Drew, and Kevin Dantzler. Visitation will be one hour before service Thursday at the Church.
Fitzhugh was born January 17, 1935 a son of Fitzhugh Lee Sweatman, Sr. and Eulalie Knight Sweatman. He was a Farmer, owner and operator with his wife of Sweatman’s General Store. He was a graduate of St. George High School and served his country in the South Carolina Army National Guard and was a member of Grover United Methodist Church. He was predeceased by a grandson, Jonathan Sweatman, great-granddaughter, Avery Drew; siblings; James R. “Bobby” Sweatman, Frances M. “Buster” Sweatman, Mary S. Taylor, Mildred S. Utsey, Edna S. Judy and Ruth S. Geddings.
Surviving: his wife, Martha Westbury Sweatman; Children, Tammie Sweatman (Michael) Drew, Walterboro, Jeffery Allan (Renee) Sweatman and Janet Sweatman (Chevis) Pendarvis, both of St. George; Grandchildren, Nick Drew, Amanda D. (Rob) Huskey, Justin (Kim) Sweatman, Jennifer (Kevin) Dantzler, Paige (Chad) Crane, Tonya (Greg) Lewis and Christy Pendarvis: great-grands; Wyatt Drew, Emma Drew, Millie Drew, Kaylynne Huskey, Madison Sweatman, Molly Sweatman, Bowen Sweatman, Murray Lynn Dantzler, Emma Dantzler, Thomas Dantzler, Paisley Crane, Chandler Crane and Kelly Kizer; and, three sisters; Margaret S. (Charles) Spell, Smoaks, Evelyn S. (Carlisle) Avant, Barbara S. Sundgren, both of St. George. A special thanks for the care given to Fitzhugh by Virginia Walker, Lizzie Fair, Maria Godbold, Edna Buckner and Amedisys Hospice of Walterboro.
