Carl Oscar McDonnell, Sr., 80, husband of Claudia McDonnell, of Harleyville, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at his residence.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, August 16, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church of Harleyville with the Reverends Kelly Snelgrove and Ed Reynolds officiating.  Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 PM before the service.  Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in the Harleyville Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Clay Cockcroft, Forrest Cockcroft, Bricky Way, Joe Way, Danny Tuten, Kelly Grahn and Steven Kizer.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the Masons.  Friends and family may visit on Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at the residence, 686 West Main St., Harleyville.

Carl was born on October 21, 1937, in Orlando, Florida, a son of the late Fred Elliott and Oveida Rice McDonnell.  He was a 1958 graduate of Carlisle Military School and was an electrician with Giant Portland Cement for more than 30 years. He was twice Past Master of Egeria Masonic Lodge #71, Scottish Rite and Omar Shriner.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he was a trustee.  He enjoyed tinkering in his shop and could do anything from woodworking to automotive.  He always had a smile, joke and laugh for all and never met a stranger.  He generously would help anyone in his community.  He was predeceased by a sister, Martha Lee Carew.

Surviving is his wife of 54 years Claudia Rast McDonnell, Harleyville; a son, Carl O. McDonnell, Jr., Mason City, Iowa; daughters, Elizabeth Ann McDonnell, Harleyville and LaBeth Johnston McDonnell, St. George; grandchildren, Grayson Rast McDonnell and Patrick Tate McDonell; a sister, Mary Lou Cockcroft, Dorchester and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice of Charleston and especially his nurse, Kaye Holman for their special love and care.
