Thomas was born November 10, 1934, in Branchville, SC. In 1957, he married the late Kay Frances Bridge McAlhany. Together they built their home in Grover, SC. Thomas served in the U.S. Army and later retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard after over 30 years of service.

He loved to laugh and make others laugh.
